The actual Classic Rock format on traditional radio did not even appear until 1984. In 1985, 97 Underground went into transition. With Hard Rock and Heavy Metal gaining widely in popularity, 97 Underground began it's assault on Baltimore radio in the Spring of 1987, mixing new and classic hard rock with some local music, as well.
